     Georgetown University law student L. Richard Walton has won first place in the 2001 William W. Greenhalgh Student Writing Competition sponsored by the ABA Section of Criminal Justice.
     Walton received his $2,000 cash prize at the section's luncheon in August during the ABA's annual meeting in Chicago. In addition, he received a one-year free membership in the section as well as transportation and lodging to attend the luncheon.
     The 2001 context topic was "School Violence and the Classroom: Balancing Constitutional Rights of Students and the Need for Safe Schools." Walton's essay, "Freedom from Fear: Balancing the Fourth Amendment With Kids, Guns, and the Rule of Reason," appeared in the summer 2001 issue of Criminal Justice magazine.
     The topic for this year's contest is "The Fourth Amendment in Cyberspace." papers prepared for law school credit are eligible, and the entry postmark deadline is Nov. 16.
